Britain power cord is generally considered to be electrical equipment for end-users to operate within residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings and in special facilities and locations such as marinas or caravan parks. It usually does not cover transmission or distribution to them.

UK wire standards are largely harmonised with regulations in other European countries as well as with the international IEC 60446 standard. However, there are many country-specific practices, customs and traditions that are quite different from other countries, and in some cases can be harmonized. These include the use of ring circuits for household and light commercial fixed wiring, fuse plugs, and the use of historically unique wiring colors for circuits installed before unification.
